T-GLIPs: TMU Global Leaders for Innovation Programs
The TMU Global Leaders for Innovation Programs (T-GLIPs), offered through the Faculty of Urban Environmental Sciences, prepare students to become future leaders in science, engineering, and urban innovation. Through interdisciplinary coursework, hands-on laboratory training, fieldwork, internships, problem-based learning, and advanced research, students develop specialized expertise alongside a global perspective on urban and environmental challenges.
Curriculum
Based on the various branches of geography, our department allows students to gain an integrated understanding of the mutual interactions between the natural environment and human activity, which are the key constituent elements of an urban area. By having students complete the compulsory basic science subjects and the specialized geography subjects, including field work and practical training in GIS, the division promotes the development of competent people who are able to solve various issues confronting humankind.
- 1st Year
In addition to introductory lectures, a course is offered in which faculty members take turns introducing their own research.
- 2nd Year
Students take foundational lectures related to the three main fields of geography—physical geography, human geography, and geographical information science—as well as seminars and practical training to learn survey, observation, and analysis techniques.
- 3rd Year
Students participate in seminars that discuss research trends across various fields through domestic and international literature, and undertake long-term field excursions to put into practice the skills acquired in seminars and practical training.
- 4th Year
Students join a research laboratory and independently work on their graduation thesis, drawing on what they have learned so far.
